Things to do in the Dandenong Ranges

LOCAL CULTURE
Discover little villages offering Devonshire teas, crafts, antiques and galleries with the work of local artists. Enjoy fine dining at superb restaurants or take advantage of a packed picnic hamper and explore the many open gardens throughout the area.

PUFFING BILLY
Catch the "Puffing Billy" steam train from nearby Belgrave station. Take a trip to pretty Emerald, the lake and its environs.

WINERIES
Spend a day exploring the famous Yarra Valley, calling in at wineries you have only read of on bottle labels - the world renowned Domaine Chandon, Eyton on Yarra, Station Yering, De Bortoli's and many others. You will not need a picnic lunch this day as fine eating abounds with local fare of cheeses, game and produce at most wineries - or take a barbecue.

GOLF
The scenic Olinda Golf Course is within walking distance and offers the most enterprising golfer some serious challenges.

BUSH WALKERS
Walk to your heart's content through some of the most beautiful country mountainside you will ever see. The tall Mountain Ash are amongst the tallest trees in the world and a welcoming picnic ground is never far away for that well earned rest.

LOCAL SIGHTS
The Mount Dandenong Observatory and the Healesville Australian Native Sanctuary are all close by. Not to be missed in the spring are the famous National Rhododendron Gardens and William Ricketts Aboriginal Sculpture Sanctuary. Tesselaar's Tulip Farm and Cloudehill Nursery (of Don Bourke fame).
